Penaudio Suomi: Exclusive bookshelf speakers from Finland

The Penaudio Suomi bookshelf speaker systems were unveiled at the High End Show in Berlin this past May and are now available for purchase. Penaudio claims that these are the finest two-way bookshelf speakers they have ever produced. Featuring advanced, next-generation drivers and the exceptional design skills of chief developer Sami Penttile, the Suomi speakers promise to deliver an outstanding listening experience in smaller spaces where larger models may not fit.

The remarkable damping characteristics of these speaker enclosures, crafted using a refined proprietary technology developed over many years, play a crucial role in enhancing sound quality. Additionally, the speakers' aesthetic appeal, featuring Karelian birch veneer with its distinctive grain, enriches the experience of ownership—transforming them into true masterpieces created by a skilled cabinetmaker, inspired by the natural beauty of Finland. The Suomi speakers are the shelf counterparts to the floor-standing Karelia and Karelietta models, together forming the prestigious Penaudio Suomi series.

The Suomi speaker systems feature a specially designed SEAS Excel tweeter that incorporates a diamond dome diffuser. This material is regarded as optimal for high-frequency emitters due to its unique combination of rigidity and low mass, resulting in a sound that is exceptionally reliable, natural, and free from coloration. The design focuses solely on delivering the purest musical experience. This tweeter operates effectively up to 50 kHz, and its ultra-high breakdown frequency minimizes distortions that could lead to unintended sound artifacts. The midrange and low-frequency speaker diffuser is constructed from magnesium, enhanced with a graphene coating. Magnesium is recognized for its outstanding damping characteristics, lightweight nature, and high rigidity, making it an ideal choice for low- and midrange speaker diffusers. The advanced manufacturing techniques employed in applying the graphene coating facilitate rapid sound production.

Based on the listening evaluations, the following high-fidelity components were chosen for the crossover in the Penaudio Suomi: Mundorf Hepta Strand inductors, MCapEvoSilverGoldOil and MCapEvoOil capacitors, along with MResist Supreme resistors. The enclosures of the Penaudio Suomi acoustic system are constructed using a proprietary method: the panels consist of layers of birch plywood that are glued together under pressure and then shaped into the necessary configurations. To enhance structural integrity, they are internally reinforced with MDF inserts and coated with bitumen to improve damping characteristics. This combination of high-quality plywood and specialized materials results in enclosures that are exceptionally inert, allowing the speakers' full capabilities to be realized.

Penaudio provides an excellent accessory for its Suomi bookshelf speakers in the form of the branded Penaudio Stand One speaker stands. These stands are not only aesthetically pleasing but also serve as a practical companion for your bookshelf speakers. The Penaudio Stand One features a specialized two-support design that can support even larger monitors, thanks to its robust and sturdy plates. The lower platform is constructed with two plates to ensure optimal structural stability and effective vibration control, standing at a height of 4.5 cm. Additionally, the platform is equipped with well-damped, heavy-duty steel adjustable spikes that include locking locknuts, ensuring effective decoupling from the surface beneath.

The stand is constructed with two hollow black aluminum supports that feature internal partitions for added reinforcement. These supports can be filled with ballast, typically calcined sand or lead shot, to enhance the overall weight of the structure and improve its resistance to vibrations. With its sleek, minimalist design and impressive finish, the Penaudio Stand One seamlessly integrates into any interior setting while effectively decoupling the acoustics from the supporting surface. The stand measures 665 mm in height without the spikes.
